Congratulations Camille
Granddaughter of multi-instrumentalist (big band conductor for Verne Buck & his Orchestra, Merry-Mad Musical Gang & Vern Buck vaudeville show), Viverne Buckborough known as “Prince of Pep,” and Myrtle Judith Wilen piano player and vocalist, Hawaii-born Camille Sallave grew up in a constant flow of jazz, swing, bebop, blues, R&B, soul, jump-jive, show tunes, etc... playing when visiting the Buckborough side of her family. During holidays you could find Camille’s mother Judy, grandmother Maka (Myrtle) and Aunty Pat gathered in the kitchen or around the piano singing – diving deep into harmonies – but also humorously critiquing each other on who should be singing which part. It was a perfect breeding ground for Camille’s impressionable young mind with admiring eyes/ears and wild spirit. On Camille’s father’s side (Santiago Sallave Jr), the Hawaiian culture played an extremely important part in her life, and she started dancing and performing hula around 5 years of age. It was through the dance of hula that Camille learned how to speak with her hands, eyes and body motion but mostly with soul and heart without saying or singing a word. She also attributes her love of nature to her Hawaiian upbringing.
What you might not know about Camille is that she was a trail ambassador for Santa Ysabel nature preserve and tosses around the idea of becoming a Park Ranger someday. Camille is an activist, believes in women’s rights, civil rights & equality for all humans across the globe, and she makes sure to set aside time to give back to the community by volunteering, protesting and lending a helping hand. She enjoys hiking, camping and backpacking.
Camille currently has two albums in the works. The first is an EP titled The Entreprendre, produced by Jeff Berkley. These 6 songs string together a silky web of deep-rooted passionate ballads for the listener to sink their bones into for 25 or so minutes. Sometimes we just want ballads in our ears for a spell. This EP slows down & drenches the soul yet still awaiting drips of passion to revive the often-layered wilderness & wildness that a heart and mind embark on. The second is Camille’s Confessions Vol 2, produced by Kris Towne. This will be a compilation of Jazz, Blues, Soul & Folk. Much like Camille’s wide array of interests, it will sure be a testimony of such layers. Embracing weaving lyrical elements along with the magical delicacies of all the musicians on board. Bold, vulnerable, powerful yet subtle.
